No while at the Safehaven I had the good fortune of getting to know the staff and had been making a few of my artistic craft skills known as well as devoting a bit of my time to my exotic pursuits. Perhaps that was why I totally missed the very band of adventures that I was supposed to have been looking for the entire time. So suffice to say it actually came as quite the surprise to me when I was approached by a human name Arrol who I deduced to be a Rogue told me that he had heard that I was a Cartographer and that they sought adventure and could use my assistance with a map.
It took me a few moments as he brought me before his group and if it had not been for Invelous and Niam in the midst I might have not even recognized them. I of course thought of my sister and the many games we use to always play with our coins as I realized I was about to head out into the world of grand adventure and mischief. I really would not have mattered on what side that coin had landed and only if it had landed on its end therefore being neither heads nor tails would I have considered it a bad omen and withdrew from the mission laid out for me. As it was they planned to head out into the woods and seek out the lair of Elven Wizard Rogue who no doubt I would wager shared the same Patron as I no doubt so I figured at least if nothing else it would prove to be interesting.
So it came to pass that I reluctantly joined up with a mysterious band of adventures that actually barely resembled the group that had originally peaked my interest. Such is life I suppose and as I of course realized that a long life can indeed be random I figured why not no one lives forever. Don’t get me wrong I actually do plan to live forever but it’s unlikely that all of the companions I may associate myself with over the centuries I plan to live will survive so why get attached right and live for the moment.
Well the member of the group who seemed to be calling the shots as it were was a Human Priest of Mystra named Donavan he seemed typical of most human who had gained power. Let us just say he seemed more than a little arrogant and overbearing and for the record seemed to be the most insidious Priest who professed to stand for good that I had ever met. His right hand man a loyal enforcer was the stoic but slippery human Fighter known as Falcon. Next was the emotional yet courageous Dwarven female Warrior known simply as Bolora. Oddly the male Wild Elf immoral Ranger Niam to whom I had been told about was also still with them. Finally there was the figure for I had been actually eager to meet in the flesh the mysterious yet insidious Rogue Invelous. Well I had sought excitement and something to occupy my time besides just coping and reviewing information and it had just landed in my lap.
Did I mention that I was bisexual well perhaps not and while If give the choice I preferred women given the choice I was not one to turn down and attractive male or for that matter let either sex know how I felt about them if given the chance. I realized early on that the group that I had just joined was going to be a boring one indeed for it seemed that now of the males shared my liberated point of view regarding the sexes. Shall we say torture with a capital T. Really all I was supposedly to do was map a maze of an Elven Wizard/Rogue and participate and I was assured a full share of any treasure gained during what I was calling a scouting expedition which was of course a bonus. For the record what kind of choice did I really have go with them and have a chance to grow in power and experience or stay put and be obligated to report to back to the EI.
So not really difficult math actually and we soon departed Waterdeep and headed South for the Ardeep Forest. During the first day of our journey I really just spend my time observing my new companions. From what I could tell the only one who seemed truly at home on the road was actually the one person who I would not have doubted and that was the Ranger Niam. All went well and soon night came and we set up watches with basically three watches of four hours each. Now since I only needed four hours of rest unless I needed to restore my magic I found it quite interesting to note that the Human Arrol found did not seem to need the sleep that a Human should normally need. At the time I figured he must have been in possession of a Ring of Sustenance or something similar. Of course what was odd was that Arrol left the camp at night and returned before morning. Now was actually peculiar was that we did not hear the animals of the forest.

Chapter Zero
(Mirtul, 20, ----)- (Mirtul,27,----)[5/20/---]-[5/27----]
The month was Mirtul the first month of Spring and the first one after the Greengrass celebration but I shall try to keep the tales of my shall we say more exotic exploits to a minimum as this is supposed to be an official record all I can say is that I will do my best. Now as I was saying it was actually well into Mirtul actually the twentieth day to be exact when word of a number of kidnappings that had somehow been tied to Shar and corruption within the City Watch of Waterdeep came across my desk.
Alright let me not get to ahead of myself and step back just a little bit. So I did not have an office but what I did have at the Pantheon Temple of the Seldarine was a place where I worked under the auspices of a scribe and bookbinder. It was my job to review information that came in from what we shall call the Erevan Ilesere or (EI) network and file it for reference operatives higher up the chain of command or so I thought.
Now back to what had come across my desk well it was none other than a copy of a journal from a double operative whose name shall not be mentioned here to protect his identity. The journal entry told of an honorable Monk a human named Kal’Rath Alet’tar of Halruaan descent and member of the obscure Shining Hand Order of Monk-Wizards of Azuth and his arrival in Waterdeep and somehow getting mixed up with local heroes of sorts which included the Aasimar Twins of the South Ward. Now if it weren’t for the fact that Kal’Rath who I believe would have been intolerable haughty snot were it not for a great love of his life named Samaria Del’Ley’Court I might not even had paid it any mind and simply translated it into Hamarfae a dead elven language to all but the highly educated and moved on. But something about the Halruaan dialect had always intrigued me and the thought of doing highly exotic things onboard a flying ship made me bring the copy to my superior in the EI.
To set the record straight my superior a Priest of Erevan Ilesere was not really concerned about the situation between Mystra and Shar and really neither was I but the fact that children had been involved did warrant investigation well that and a mysterious rogue mentioned in the Monk’s writings named Invelous who it seemed had earned the respect of a lawful monk bore investigation. So when my superior after reviewing the translation I had given him I was informed that the Monk known as Kal’Rath had actually returned from an island near Waterdeep and already recruited new members to replace a few that had been lost. He spoke of a Wild Elf Ranger named Niam and two worshipers of Mystra having joined them as well as a crazed Sorcerer who had spoke of their mission as if it was a death mission before they had been recruited. Let us say I was actually thankful that I had missed their mission as I was not really eager to head into a deathtrap but that did not mean that I did not actually have a mission.
My mission was a simple one I was to merely look into the situation discretely and find out if there was anything that might threaten the Seldarine or the Sun Elves and if I deemed it necessary report back to the EI at the Pantheon. My first stop was of course nearby Dragon’s Head Tavern and a meeting with Miles the Bard. Miles the Bard who I remembered had spoken with Kal’Rath before he had met his current companions I hoped for a few coins might be willing to speak of him and I was not disappointed. My second was to head to the Watchful Order of Magists & Protectors Guildhall or actually also close by Tower of the Order and pay up my dues just in case. Not that it was really required but it did have it benefits and while I had the Pantheon to fall back on I really preferred to do things on my own. My last stop was the stomping grounds of the thorns in Shar’s side as it was rumored that they had decided to call for the time being the Safehaven Inn there unofficial home. As I had missed the departure and I assure was not really that sorry I had a little time to relax and observe and shall we say have a good time sadly it did not last as long as I would have hoped.
Suffice to say I managed to have eight fun filled days at the Safehaven Inn where I was able to eventually find out that Kal’Rath had died. One of the Aasimar twins named Glader was a twin no longer and the crazed Sorcerer whose name I never did catch along with an entire contingent of those loyal to Tyr including a Paladin has perished but on the bright side the children were saved. I suppose that should count for something but looking back at it all that was lost to bring about that minor victory almost makes one wonder if the Goddess of Loss Shar did not actually win that one.

Prologue
They have come to call me Caspian Thorn the Sun Elf but really my taken surname among those of the Realms is actually not my true last name. I chose Thorn originally due to the fact that I was what you might say always a literal thorn in my family’s side. If you catch my drift let us say while I learned how to keep my place in my family being the fourth child of seven did not really give someone with my obvious gifts the opportunity to shall we say shine.
Now my family the ancient and noble Sun Elf House Durothil known for our Wizards and Fighters and who often take pride in the fact we can trace our line all the way back to the Crown Wars before the Drow were turned and the Seldarine sundered. But there is no need to brag perhaps its better if I just move along with my tale about myself. So that being said I will ignore the majority of my family and the other royals and focus really only on myself and my twin sister Caspia. Suffice to say that my sister and I are of a similar vein in personality and disposition and in truth the formality of Evermeet was never really our style.
So when we became aware late in our eighth decade that the Wizard Savaras Durothil a high ranking noble of our house was heading back to the mainland to settle and begin training Wizards in Cormanthor as the Retreat as it had been called was officially over we put or name on the list the first chance we had. This is of course led us to Cormanthor and the Dalelands our new home away from home as we like to say. Now obviously there was more to Savaras than met the eye for while like most Sun Elves he paid homage to all of the Seldarine his patron was the very Deity who soon became our as well that of Erevan Ilesere patron of mischief and Rogues.
Now of course Savaras once he was established in the Dales began to shall we say begin operating clandestine operations in the name of the Sun Elves. It was during the decades spent with our Elder and Master that we learned of his true nature. To put it mildly it changed us and I would say even between Caspia and I were we to say for better or worse we would have to flip a coin. To say that or personalities splintered would be putting it mildly. Now I realize that many might call me insane on a bad day but in truth I am just being true to my patron Erevan Ilesere. For in all honesty I have learned as my sister Caspia did as well that we can only be true to each other.
To others they may have to deal with other sides of my personality let us call them Kas, Asp, and Mister Thorn. Now regarding the name Thorn it just seemed to fit and in all honesty as my sister and I were not actually trying to bring shame to our House or our Patron it seemed fitting to use a different last name to add a little flavor if you will. Regarding Kas consider him the Light side of my personality generous and courageous and unless there is a Paladin or someone from our House around you don’t often see him. Then there is the loquacious and know-it-all Asp a regular snake in the grass willing to do anything to insure our survival. But the most feared and strongest of my facets would be Mister Thorn the cruel perfectionist. No on my own I suppose I can be a little hard to take in being bisexual and all but the way I see it what is decades of life without a little fun and games.
So let us move ahead to how I ended up in Waterdeep the City of Splendors and making my way to the Pantheon Temple of the Seldarine. Well to begin with what is now Waterdeep once belonged to the Elves and the only sign that remains of a once vast Elven Realm resides within the Pantheon located in the City of Splendors in a place they call the Castle Ward. Now of course as part of my training included painting, cartography, bookbinding and exotic languages I was well placed to be selected to head to the South Ward of Waterdeep to investigate rumors of Shar involvement in Waterdeep.
