(Mirtul, 20, ----)- (Mirtul,27,----)[5/20/---]-[5/27----]
The month was Mirtul the first month of Spring and the first one after the Greengrass celebration but I shall try to keep the tales of my shall we say more exotic exploits to a minimum as this is supposed to be an official record all I can say is that I will do my best. Now as I was saying it was actually well into Mirtul actually the twentieth day to be exact when word of a number of kidnappings that had somehow been tied to Shar and corruption within the City Watch of Waterdeep came across my desk.
Alright let me not get to ahead of myself and step back just a little bit. So I did not have an office but what I did have at the Pantheon Temple of the Seldarine was a place where I worked under the auspices of a scribe and bookbinder. It was my job to review information that came in from what we shall call the Erevan Ilesere or (EI) network and file it for reference operatives higher up the chain of command or so I thought.
Now back to what had come across my desk well it was none other than a copy of a journal from a double operative whose name shall not be mentioned here to protect his identity. The journal entry told of an honorable Monk a human named Kal’Rath Alet’tar of Halruaan descent and member of the obscure Shining Hand Order of Monk-Wizards of Azuth and his arrival in Waterdeep and somehow getting mixed up with local heroes of sorts which included the Aasimar Twins of the South Ward. Now if it weren’t for the fact that Kal’Rath who I believe would have been intolerable haughty snot were it not for a great love of his life named Samaria Del’Ley’Court I might not even had paid it any mind and simply translated it into Hamarfae a dead elven language to all but the highly educated and moved on. But something about the Halruaan dialect had always intrigued me and the thought of doing highly exotic things onboard a flying ship made me bring the copy to my superior in the EI.
To set the record straight my superior a Priest of Erevan Ilesere was not really concerned about the situation between Mystra and Shar and really neither was I but the fact that children had been involved did warrant investigation well that and a mysterious rogue mentioned in the Monk’s writings named Invelous who it seemed had earned the respect of a lawful monk bore investigation. So when my superior after reviewing the translation I had given him I was informed that the Monk known as Kal’Rath had actually returned from an island near Waterdeep and already recruited new members to replace a few that had been lost. He spoke of a Wild Elf Ranger named Niam and two worshipers of Mystra having joined them as well as a crazed Sorcerer who had spoke of their mission as if it was a death mission before they had been recruited. Let us say I was actually thankful that I had missed their mission as I was not really eager to head into a deathtrap but that did not mean that I did not actually have a mission.
My mission was a simple one I was to merely look into the situation discretely and find out if there was anything that might threaten the Seldarine or the Sun Elves and if I deemed it necessary report back to the EI at the Pantheon. My first stop was of course nearby Dragon’s Head Tavern and a meeting with Miles the Bard. Miles the Bard who I remembered had spoken with Kal’Rath before he had met his current companions I hoped for a few coins might be willing to speak of him and I was not disappointed. My second was to head to the Watchful Order of Magists & Protectors Guildhall or actually also close by Tower of the Order and pay up my dues just in case. Not that it was really required but it did have it benefits and while I had the Pantheon to fall back on I really preferred to do things on my own. My last stop was the stomping grounds of the thorns in Shar’s side as it was rumored that they had decided to call for the time being the Safehaven Inn there unofficial home. As I had missed the departure and I assure was not really that sorry I had a little time to relax and observe and shall we say have a good time sadly it did not last as long as I would have hoped.
Suffice to say I managed to have eight fun filled days at the Safehaven Inn where I was able to eventually find out that Kal’Rath had died. One of the Aasimar twins named Glader was a twin no longer and the crazed Sorcerer whose name I never did catch along with an entire contingent of those loyal to Tyr including a Paladin has perished but on the bright side the children were saved. I suppose that should count for something but looking back at it all that was lost to bring about that minor victory almost makes one wonder if the Goddess of Loss Shar did not actually win that one.
