With the Master of Death restored he was able to use his power to reveal an exit from our prison and we soon with the magic at my disposal and his mastery of what could only be dark magic navigated our way to the rest of our group. Oddly when we had the chance to leave the Master of Death or the Master as I called him had chosen to turn back and search for his minions no doubt seeking his pot of gold the servant Lord Z and the others.
We found them in short order and as I expected none of them would have survived were it not for Invelous who was mostly unscathed while the others all looked on the brink of death itself. The spoke of what sounded like a Water Elemental guarding a passage and filled me in on the areas they had travelled and only the studious survivor Invelous even questioned my new nature. It mattered not for in my mind they all had to have seen the power of the Master and due to their greed had chosen to accept the price of his power. I will be honest I too admired his power and who would not but I also realized the problem he had power but he was not all powerful. I was willing to serve his interests as in so doing it would help to aid in the growth and development of my own power. So truly we were not at odds with each other and I was willing to bow before him in order to preserve my life until he rose to power or had it stripped from him whichever came first all the while realizing that there would one day be a reckoning of that I can assure you.
The Master upon searching the body of Niam as he had healed him who had already angered his comrades by shooting them in back with arrows and truly who could blame him they were only apparently lowly Humans and a Dwarf. He found a Longsword on his body that he claimed belonged to a Paladin of Tyr that they had travelled with who along with his group according to Niam perished at the dark hand of the Master. The matter was put aside for the time being but the story went that the items of the Paladin were to have been returned but instead the greed which I could see had infected Niam if he were not careful lead to his death. It would serve him right for he was caught dead to rights but I will admit he showed more courage than I would have expected and for it I suppose the Master did not strike him down. Weak was all I thought to show mercy to Niam even as I considered ways to one day avenge his death hell I even believed for a while that the Master might have even ordered me to do it.
Well instead of leaving the Master decided to test his mettle against the Water Elemental and to make a long story short we were not up to the task and Niam once again showing a desire for power I have rarely even read about dove into the very depths itself in order to seek out gold for himself even as his very life was in peril. Donavan and done as well as of course Lord Z had mentioned the treasure to all of us but even his servant Arrol had not rushed forward more intent upon his own survival it would seem. And so with the map unfinished we decided to leave the deathtrap although clearly obvious deathtrap and head back to Waterdeep.
Our first day of travel was uneventful as I had come to expect under the watchful eye of Lord Z and the protection of the Master. I will admit I even heard the voices of the power the Master served trying to seduce me and while it was tempting it was not what I was currently looking for I sought perfection which can only come from gaining power and magic and if the power I witnessed in Donavan was any indication a quick and easy path it was not.
Well let me be precise there was a mild argument between Niam, Falcon and the Master which where Niam claimed he was just going to leave with the Tyr Sword and Falcon convinced him to relinquish the sword and lead us back to Waterdeep at which point we would disperse if need be once the mission was complete. Niam backed down which surprised me but I also realized any threat he might have mentioned about exposing the Master would also implicate himself so perhaps he was not so carless as he had seemed more likely just aloof when it came to lesser but still powerful races.
Perhaps I has spoken to seen for in the middle of my watch Invelous woke us up to inform us that Donavan as he called him had walked off into the forest and we needed to help him. I almost laughed right in his face. He looked to me and informed me that my Master was in danger as if I was an ignorant fool or something. I looked at him clearly and informed him that I am bowing before the Master but let us make it straight he serves Powers that I respect and I advise you do as well. I had concluded that his power far exceeded my own and if he were truly in danger there was nothing I could do to prevent it.
The rest of the night went uneventful but alas what is travel with the Master of Death without a little excitement and in the morning we were sure to receive it.
